Nurturing growth

"Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to them." (Mark 10:14)

Jesus clearly tells us to let the children come, and Zion Lutheran Church has for over 125 years placed a strong emphasis on the Christian education of its youth. Our school building, dedicated in 1996, is further evidence of Zion's resolve to continue to provide quality Christian nurturing for its children. We pray that Zion Lutheran School will be a great benefit for generations to come.

Our primary purpose

Zion Lutheran School's primary purpose is that each child grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ as his or her personal Savior.

We serve parents who are eager to follow the command of Jesus, who said, "Feed My lambs." Our caring and dedicated staff recognize all children as gifts of God and care for their academic, emotional, physical, and (most importantly) spiritual welfare.

As a Christian elementary school, we differ from a public school because, in addition to providing a high-quality, secular education, all areas of learning are presented in the light of God's Word. Each child is taught to behold the guiding hand of God as shown in the creation of the world, through the course of history, and in everyday life today.

"Bring your children up in the training and instruction of the Lord." (Ephesians 6:4)

Why Zion Lutheran School?

We are not just a private school -- we are a Christian school with Christ-centered values.

We have an experienced teaching staff, with an average of 20 years in the teaching ministry.

We have a standardized testing program (MAP Growth) to determine a student's instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year (and from year to year) in subjects like reading, math, language, and science. Teachers receive detailed reports to identify areas of weakness or strength, so they can plan instruction accordingly for each student. Find out more about our results.

We offer online progress reports through Sycamore.

We encourage communication between our teachers and parents.

We use Christian discipline, meant to bring the child into the behavior of a disciple of Jesus. This is done out of concern for the spiritual well-being of the child and love for the child's soul.

We offer core academic courses, and balance them with extracurricular activities.

We have well-equipped modern facilities (equipped with bipolar ionization systems to minimize exposure to harmful air), and we have ample green space.

Growing in knowledge

As a Christian elementary school, our school differs from public schools in that it teaches God's Word and promotes the Lutheran faith.  However, Zion also provides a well-rounded, current, secular education which equips the students for a useful life in God's creation.  All areas of learning are presented in the light of God's Word.  This means that the child is taught to behold the guiding hand of God the Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier as shown in the creation of the world, in the course of events in history, and in the entire life of every individual.

Our academic goal is to teach each and every child to become more skilled in using language and understanding the concepts of math, science, social studies, art, and music.

Since our graduates enroll in three or more different high schools, and pupils from any of the grades in our schools may transfer to other schools in our community, state, or nation, we try to present a general curriculum which will make such a transition as reasonable as possible. In so doing, however, we maintain what we consider a basic course of education in the fundamental areas of learning. More information on our curriculum is here.

Emotional and physical growth

Zion also recognizes the immeasurable value of extracurricular activities in a well-rounded education. Some of these activities include:

Cross-Country
Kickball
Wrestling
Basketball
Volleyball
Spelling Bees
Band
Piano
Vacation Bible School

We are dedicated to...

GUIDING students, through the study of God's Word, to keep their sights set on the goal of eternal life in heaven.

HELPING each child work to the best of his God-given ability and "to be content whatever the circumstances." (Philippians 4:11)

DEVELOPING a close partnership between the home, school, and church.

ENCOURAGING students to share their faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ at home and in their communities.

Zion's Program

3 and 4-Year-Old Preschool - Led by a certified, experienced teacher

School - Caring, experienced teachers with instruction fixed on the truths of God's Word

High School - Since our graduates enroll in three or more different high schools, we try to present a general curriculum which will make such a transition as reasonable as possible.  In so doing, however, we maintain what we consider a basic course of education in the fundamental areas of learning. Multigrade Classrooms

The WELS private school system (i.e. parochial or church-operated schools) is the fourth-largest private school system in America, operating more than 350 schools nationwide. We have been blessed with experience: WELS congregations have operated elementary schools for over 150 years. In addition, the WELS has developed and maintains a strong support system for WELS schools and teachers. Since our teachers may be called to serve in a wide variety of settings, from large schools in the city to small schools operated by a rural congregation, WELS teachers are graduated uniquely equipped to teach in multigrade classrooms. We are humbly proud in our Savior Jesus to be able to offer a great education in multigrade classrooms. Please watch the videos below (thanks, Timothy Vogel) and feel free to speak to our staff about any questions you may have about our school. We have also linked to a brochure with more information on the benefits of our multigrade classrooms.

Note: The linked videos are from other WELS multigrade schools, not from Zion. The information is relevant, though.
