In addition to our worship services, Christian elementary school, adult Bible studies, Christian daycare, Christian preschool, church membership classes, youth confirmation classes, Sunday school, and vacation Bible school, we offer several different opportunities to "plug in" at Zion.

Christian Education Association

General information

A Christian Education Association (CEA) for parents and friends of Zion Lutheran School has been organized. The purpose of this organization is to strengthen and foster a better understanding between school and the home and to ultimately improve our school and the education it offers.

Our school has been blessed over the years with parents who have volunteered their services in many areas. Through participation in the CEA, you can become active doers in support of our school and church.

We welcome suggestions for other projects and possible topic(s) you would like presented at future meetings. The Christian Education Association will only be successful if you are willing to participate in its functions.

Meetings

Our first meeting of the year is on the Tuesday night of the first week of school. This meeting serves as a parent and teacher orientation event. Important information about the upcoming school year is presented to the group, and then more grade-specific information is presented in each classroom. Other meetings are held throughout the year..

Opportunities for Volunteers

Several projects are carried out by the CEA throughout the year. We would appreciate it if each family would become involved and sign up for one or more of the following projects:

Classroom Helper Cradle Roll / Nursery Track and Field Day
Church Fellowship Hour Banners Library
Hot Lunch Helpers Pot-Lucks Scrip
Concession Stand Coaching Fundraising
Holiday Decorating Set Up / Take Down Gym Chairs School Cleaning
Theater Program Grandparents' Day Teacher Appreciation Week
Church and School Picnic Ice Cream Socials Game Nights
Childcare Tutoring Etc.

Choir

If you have a love of singing and a desire to lift your voice in praise and thanksgiving to the Lord, we invite you to come and join the adult choir. The choir practices weekly (usually from September through May - check the calendar) and sings in worship services a few times each month.

Shut-in and Hospital Visitation

The purpose of Zion's visitation ministry is to train members to minister to other members of the congregation who need spiritual, and sometimes physical, assistance. Areas of service include regular visits to shut-ins, nursing homes, hospices, and hospitals to visit and read devotions.

Greeters and Ushers

Church greeters and ushers are important members of our team. They not only help to welcome people, they keep things running smoothly at our worship services -- and they form a part of the first impression that a visitor receives.

bells

Bells of Zion

The Bells of Zion beautify our services by ringing praises for the Lord. The bell choir welcomes new members, even if you've never played before. You don't need extensive knowledge of music to join, but some experience is certainly helpful. The choir practices weekly (usually Tuesday nights from September through May - check the calendar) and plays at worship services several times a year.

Audio/Visual Team

After some training, volunteers help to run sound, lights, cameras, and projectors during the worship services.

Ladies Aid

Our Ladies Aid organization welcomes all ladies of our church family to its meetings, usually on the first Thursday of the month from September through December and March through May (check the calendar for details). The meetings are usually held in the lower level of the church.

The group gets together for fellowship, Bible study, and several different service projects:

  1. baking for various events at church and school
  2. Christmas bake sale each December
  3. helping to prepare bulletins for weekend worship services
  4. supporting our mission in Costa Maya, Mexico

Youth Group

The Zion Youth Group meets on Sunday mornings throughout the school year for teen Bible study, and gets together for several fellowship and service projects year-round.

Athletics

Whether coaching, cheering, or playing, there are plenty of opportunities for athletic participation at Zion. Activities include the high school basketball team, golf outings, and numerous school sports teams.

Lutheran Girl Pioneers

Lutheran Girl Pioneers (LGP) is a Christ-centered youth program for girls of Zion. The girls typically get together two nights each month during the school year (check the calendar for details).

Although camping and building fires might come to mind when you hear of Pioneers, today Pioneers is so much more. It is an opportunity for girls to discover and develop interests in many areas. Girls may choose to explore art; drama; photography; leadership; pet care; or gardening -- just to name a few.

LGP strives to help each girl become a happy, confident, and useful member of her church, school, home, and community. LGP's goal to help girls realize the joy of a Christ-centered life.

The LGP is not just for young girls, though. The group also needs the guidance of several caring teens and adults at each meeting.

Lutheran Pioneers

Lutheran Pioneers is a youth program for the boys of Zion. The group usually meets on two nights each month during the school year (check the calendar). Lutheran Pioneers is committed to teaching all subject matter, whether tying knots, archery, budgeting, home repair, or countless others, in a manner in keeping with the inerrant Word of God, and the doctrinal teachings of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.

In addition to the many opportunities this program makes available to boys, there are also openings for devoted and caring leaders -- teens or adults.

Elders

This board is responsible for the worship life and the spiritual life of the congregation. Elders are in charge of the church for worship services. They work with ushers to distribute bulletins and collect the offering, and they help with the preparation of and distribution of the Lord's Supper. The elders contact members who are not making use of God's Word and the Lord's Supper, and encourage them in their spiritual lives. The Elders meet once each month from September through May.

Finance Committee

This committee is responsible for the congregation's financial affairs. Finance Committee members serve as captains of teams that count and record weekly offerings. One member of the board serves as the congregation's Financial Secretary, and another is its Treasurer. The Board of Finance also develops and brings before the Church Council the budget for each calendar year.

Education Committee

The members of this committee work to promote quality Christian education at Zion and, together with the school principal, deal with matters that concern the operation of our Christian Day School and Vacation Bible School.

Property Management Committee

The responsibilities of the Property Management Committee include maintenance and care of all the properties of Zion. Each year, the committee develops and brings before the Church Council a suggested budget for maintenance and capital improvements on our properties. "Hands-on" experience in property and building maintenance is desirable for those who are asked to serve on this committee. The Property Management Committee also deals with various vendors on projects that require outside assistance.

Stewardship Committee

This committee's function is to foster Christian stewardship among the members of Zion through encouragement and education. This committee plans and presents programs that emphasize the use of our time, talents, and treasure to God's glory.

Outreach Committee

The Outreach Committee exists to promote fellowship among the members of Zion and reach out with the Gospel into the community. The group promotes various special services and events at Zion by conducting canvasses in the area around the church and school. It also works to assimilate new members into the life and activities of the congregation.

Ministry Planning Committee

This group is asked to undertake special projects by the church council and voter's assembly. It is also the committee that is charged with establishing a long-range vision for the congregation and its future physical and spiritual development.

Communication Committee

This group oversees the development and maintenance of internal and external communication channels of the congregation (such as printed media, electronic media, and centralized data access). The committee also works to protect sensitive congregation information and privacy.

Gift Trust Fund

Through personal contacts, bulletin announcements, and seminars, this committee is responsible for building an endowment fund which helps fund the Lord's work into the future. The Gift Trust Fund Committee encourages our members to consider the Zion Gift Trust Fund as they plan their estates. God daily blesses each of us. The Gift Trust Fund provides a way to thank and honor God by giving a gift in memory of loved ones, for joyful events, unexpected pleasures, celebrations, or for memories of a faith-filled life.
